The Embassy of Nepal in Yangon organized a reception to celebrate the National Day which commemorates the promulgation of new democratic constitution in September 2015. The Chief Guest was Dr. Pe Myint, Union Minister for Information and Guest of Honour was Mr. Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government. National anthems of Myanmar and Nepal were presented by Nepali-origin students and ladies on the occasion.
Welcoming the guests Ambassador Bhim Udas said that the bilateral relations between Myanmar and Nepal have reached to its highest level in the recent years. He highlighted the visit of Myanmar President HE U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to Nepal in 2018 was a landmark since the establishment of diplomatic relation in 1960. Ambassador Udas stated that Myanmar and Nepal will be celebrating Diamond Jubilee of the diplomatic relations in 2020, which coincides with Visit Nepal Year.
Congratulating for the national day, the Chief Guest Dr. Pe Myint said, Myanmar and Nepal enjoys historically close relations and expressed his government’s support for the Visit Nepal Year 2020. He conveyed best wishes for the vision of realizing “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” for Nepal’s sustainable development.
On the occasion of the National Day, cake cutting was done by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Ambassador Udas with their spouses. Ms. Teriya Magar performed a wonderful dance entertaining the guests.
The reception was attended by about 450 guests, including Speaker of the Yangon Region parliament, Mayor of Yangon city, Ambassadors, representatives of UN agencies, members of Myanmar-Nepal Friendship Association and Chamber of Commerce, academicians, business and travel representatives and a large number of NRNs/PNOs.
In the morning, the Embassy organized a flag hoisting ceremony in its premises, which was attended by Nepali community and NRNs. A banner of Visit Nepal Year-2020 was displayed in the walkway. The Embassy premises will be illuminated for three days.
